I wrote the music and Bill Reveles wrote the lyrics. All I had was the title. The lyrics are as deep and dark as the title implies. I'm not sure what is going on in the story. But I like the mystery. I wonder if Bill knows himself. I should ask him! With most of the electric guitars on Adobe, I used Todd Chapman's wonderful Line 6 unit. For those not familiar with it, it is a box you plug your guitar into with which you can get several different "modeled" sounds. You can adjust them to suit your taste. I wanted something different for the guitar hook in the chorus and Todd helped me to get this sound. It almost doesn't sound like a guitar. Todd played the lead guitar on this.
Lyrics
The life of a gun
Hand from hand, fist to fist
Your father’s son knows what he’s done
Life as a child
To disobey and disbelieve
The cleanest sky is not that clear
Black River carry the rain
Carry it long
Black River carry the stain
Carry it down
Black River carry the rain
Black River down
Black River carry the chain
To the darkest me
He killed his dream
Strung it up then shot it down
Railed the heart clear through the eye
Black bullet bite
Shanked the bone, stung the spine
Echoed the flesh of another try
Black River carry the rain
Carry it long
Black River carry the stain
Carry it down
Black River carry the rain
Black River down
Black River carry the chain
To the darkest me
While cowards sing
With thoughts that turn, with bells that ring
The hardest thing is doubt who you are
Prints on a gun
Tighten the belt then the vandal’s done
Lions lie, heroes die
Black River carry the rain
Carry it long
Black River carry the stain
Carry it down
Black River carry the rain
Black River down
Black River carry the chain
To the darkest me
