Back in the early nineties, I decided to write a song a day for a few weeks and this was one of them. I was driving in the rain one day, and noticed how the windshield wipers "nearly put me to sleep" with their hypnotic repetition. I used to live in Seattle and with all the rain, it could be a challenge to surmount despair, especially when dealing with a break up. This was the first vocal I recorded on Adobe and, I believe, the only song I used a Fender Cybertwin on with my Strat Elite. Todd got a great sound from this combination on the board. We used his Line 6 and another guitar he had for all of the other tracks. This was also the only song on the album that I played bass on.

Lyrics

Driving on a wet street alone in the rain
Windshield wipers nearly put me to sleep
It’s been raining for almost a year
I need some sunshine to dry these tears

Rain falling down again
Rain falling down

I must have known something when I was a child
To be so happy – the good times so wild
Then all these dark clouds came gathering ‘round
The rain came pouring – the lightning hit ground

Rain falling down again
Rain falling down
Rain falling down again
Rain falling down

I saw a girl who I thought looked just like you
She was walking in the rain – but I knew
It couldn’t be you ‘cause you’re not around
You’ve gone back to the sunny side of town

Rain falling down again
Rain falling down
Rain falling down again
Rain falling down
