I remember consciously writing the title track, Morris Road, to emulate the beautiful songwriting style of Bill Reveles. Once again, fiction inspired by reality. I remember recording the vocal and harmonica with my new girlfriend, Paulette (who I'm married to today) at the session. A very happy time.

Lyrics

You can’t admit what you’re not telling me
Such is fear and life and history
You can leave—you can have what’s there
The rest is here—it’s not going anywhere

Down to Morris Road
Where it all got started
Down to Morris Road
The angels left me there
Down to Morris Road
Where truth and pain get parted
Down to Morris Road
The angels left me here

When I was seventeen, I rode that train
Out of the town from where my father came
The diamond ring wasn’t worth that much
It got me ten—got me all locked up

Down to Morris Road
Where it all got started
Down to Morris Road
The angels left me there
Down to Morris Road
Where truth and pain get parted
Down to Morris Road
The angels left me here

The people shop with children
Wild and plenty
The factory smoke searches for freedom
The Five And Dime is next to a new grey building
The cell phone’s ringing
But no one’s answering

Down to Morris Road
Where it all got started
Down to Morris Road
The angels left me there
Down to Morris Road
Where truth and pain get parted
Down to Morris Road
The angels left me here
The angels left me here
