From the recordings Morris Road and Morris Road
This was sort of a rootsy country-folk song I came up with. I don't remember a thing about writing it, but I liked the idea of closing the album with it, since it had a light-hearted feel to it. Becky just sounds so good singing harmony with me on this. I think she sang just about everything in one take. Our dad always thought we could be the next "Carpenters". So funny. Bruce played mandolin magnificently. He mentioned that he got to play mandolin on "Mandolin Wind" with Rod Stewart on Saturday Night Live one time. What could I say, except, "We are not worthy!".
Lyrics
Can you sell me a world
Where the rain never comes
Can you sell me a dream
Where the love never runs
Can you look through my pockets
And find nothing there
And still give me a smile
That shines like nowhere
Can you sell me a world
Where the rain never comes
I have nothing to give
But my face and my heart
I have nothing to sing
But this song in the dark
Are you willing to be giving
Patient and kind
Are you willing to give love
To a man who is blind
I have nothing to give
But my face and my heart
Can you sell me a world
With your perfume in the breeze
Can you sell me a world
I’m trying to see
I can see by your eyes
That your spirit is true
I can see by the way
The light shines on you
Well I know nothing lasts
But my dream never dies
It’s just covered up in ashes
From the fire of my pride
I can see by your eyes
That your spirit is true
Can you sell me a world
With your laughter in the air
Can you sell me a world
I know it’s there
